Young Black males with no father figure
Scared to expand their mind, quick to cock back “bang bang” pull the trigger.
Four seasons you can find them putting time in, behind bars or on the corner. Money is blinding
They call it grinding and some call it hustling doing whatever it takes just to get another customer.
They say “it’s hard out here I have to get this money“
Meanwhile I’m trying to wrap my mind around it but everything is fuzzy.
They flaunt, taunt, take pictures on “the block” claiming they got a hustle that nobody should knock.
“I can’t find a job, nobody wants to hire me, my daughter need pampers and my boss wants to fire me”
Excuses after excuses you doing what they want you to.
Society laughing because you showing them the “black” in you
Everybody’s “THE MAN” until their mother takes the stand identifying the person that took her boy from her hands.
But who’s to blame? Should I blame you for being ignorant or I should I blame society for thinking less of us as a culture. You can love the streets but the streets will never love you back. Yes indeed it is hard out here to make a living when you’re given little to nothing but instead of choosing what you perceive to be the easy way out why not put the time that you’re using to run these streets into something better. Our young men can do so much more but so many are falling victim to the streets at a very young age.
“You have seen how a man was made a slave; you shall see how a slave was made a man” – Frederick Douglas
Stand up and make something out of yourselves Black Males because you are destined to be Kings. If these streets are paying you well then you may already think you own that title but you have these runner ups who are just as ignorant watching the throne and the cycle continues. What you are is a slave to these streets a victim of your own mind that has been crowded with the perception that you will never amount to anything. Why? Because that’s what society tells us. There are endless opportunities out there some hidden under cracks and crevices; because majority of us present ourselves on such a low level people are surprised when a Black person makes it anywhere in life. Everybody is after the same thing “MONEY” and we all have heard the saying “Make that money, don’t let that money make you”. I know there are some out there who feel that they have exhausted all of their options and their only option is to turn to the streets. That’s a risk in itself because the streets are far from safe, the life you choose to live is yours and to each its own. Telling people their are other options is like preaching to a choir because they will continue to do what they want until they learn the hard way. But until they learn they need to keep hearing that they are able to become a better person and make it farther than where the streets allow.
My momma was raised in the era when
Clean water was only served to the fairer skin
Doin’ clothes you would have thought I had help
But they wasn’t satisfied unless I picked the cotton myself
You see it’s broke n***a racism
That’s that “Don’t touch anything in the store”
And it’s rich n***a racism
That’s that “Come in, please buy more”
“What you want, a Bentley? Fur coat? A diamond chain?
All you blacks want all the same things”
Used to only be n****s, now everybody playin’
Spendin’ everything on Alexander Wang
New Slaves – Kanye West
Until we better ourselves people will only expect what we reflect. Killing one another, buying flashy clothes just to sit on your mothers couch, choosing the streets because you’ve given up on looking for a job and the list can go on. Never let somebody tell you what you’re capable of and never think that the streets are your last resort, if you need help ask for it! People are so worried about their pride that they will put their life on the line instead. Remember: “Death is Free” so at the end of the day when you’re counting stacks and getting ready to head back out to the corner none of that no longer matters when you’re six feet under. Life is never guaranteed but don’t decrease your chances by going down the wrong path. God bless and goodnight much love to all.
